In June, Apple unveiled its HomePod at WWDC, introducing the home line product equipped with a powerful sound and a voice assistant Siri.
Now such a device is developed by Samsung, writes The Wall Street Journal, according to which South Korean giant will look to embed the device with its new Virtual Assistant Bixby in this niche but rapidly growing market.
Samsung's home speaker with a voice assistant is not a new concept, and according to the source, it is being developed for more than a year.
Bixby is still under development, which still does not support adequate English voice commands, at this stage, it is unclear when the project will be completed and available in the market.
Samsung, however, has time to launch its device - while Apple will release its HomePod until December.
According to the latest reports, Samsung is developing this speaker under the name "Vega", but it is not the first such project for the company. The source said that two years ago, a similar device was about to be officially announced (codenamed Hive), but problems with the software and voice recognition led Samsung to drop that project.
